The Archives Speaker Series lecture “Finding Sonya Levien: My Journey Through Archives” by Nancy J. Rosenbloom, PhD, professor of history, is today (October 1) at 2:30 p.m. in the Bouwhuis Library, 2nd floor. The lecture is the concluding event of 2010 Banned Books Week at the library. Light refreshments will be served.
Accompanying the lecture is an exhibit curated by Nancy Noel, archives associate, which includes the original typed manuscript of Levien’s The Little Prophet of the Immigrants with original illustrations by artist, John Enright. The manuscript and artwork, a gift to Rosenbloom from Levien’s daughter, Tamara Hovey Gold, are on temporary loan to the Canisius College Archives.
The Little Prophet of the Immigrants published in Metropolitan Magazine, March 1913 (Vol. 38 , No. 5, pp. 5+), “exemplifies Levien’s desire to unite her literary talent and her commitment to social advocacy.” To read more about this lecture, click here.
