Canisius Welcomes Donna Shaffner as Dean of Admissions

Vice President for Academic Affairs Scott A. Chadwick, PhD, announced that Donna L. Shaffner was named the college’s Dean of Admissions. Shaffner will assume the position on Monday, May 17, 2010.

Shaffner was dean of admissions for Daemen College since September 2007, and director of admissions at Daemen from May 2005 – September 2007. At Daemen, Shaffner grew the college’s enrollment base by 22 percent while reducing budget expenditures by 13 percent. She increased the average SAT score by 35 points and quality point average (QPA) by two percentage points in the last two cycles.

Prior to Daemen, Shaffner was director of admissions for Sacred Heart Academy from August 2004 – April 2005. She served as director of admissions and marketing for Glenville State College in West Virginia from March 2003 – July 2004.

“Donna brings a zeal for recruiting the best students to Canisius,” said Chadwick. “This fits perfectly with the talented student recruiting, financial aid, and support staff here at the college.”

Shaffner will oversee graduate and undergraduate recruiting, admissions, and financial aid functions. She will work closely with the academic deans to fill the college’s existing academic programs and support the deans and faculty in their efforts to develop new programs that fit Canisius’ mission and address new student demand.

Shaffner holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Dickinson College and is working toward a master’s degree in executive leadership and change.
