On Friday, October 19th, a small group of faculty, staff, students, and community partners gathered to close down the East-West Community Garden for the fall and winter months. We harvested the rest of the tomatoes (there were lots!), removed remaining plants for composting, spread hay on sites where we will be adding features in the fall, and pondered how far we have come in our first year. Neighborhood resident Verne, and community partner Joseph (Congolese Community of Buffalo) were there to help and talk about next year’s plans. Undergraduate students Jay Cooney (ABEC), Carter Keegan (Environmental Studies), and Aly Colangelo (Environmental Science) were there to help out, too! Thanks to everyone else who came and helped out.
While we are done harvesting for the year, we already begin work getting ready for the spring. If you would like to be involved in some way, including potentially using a raised bed, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
