The Campus Ministry Immersion (CMI) is a special five-day introduction to Canisius, Campus Ministry, Buffalo and the spirit of our Jesuit, Catholic University. It is open to the freshmen class of 2023 and to all transfer students. CMI is a chance for select freshmen from the class of 2023 to start college five days early and receive a special orientation to the activities and spirit of Canisius. This is a great opportunity for the incoming class to meet their classmates and experience our campus community.
Campus Ministry Immersion will give students the opportunity to partake in the essence of Campus Ministry through local service, justice activities, prayer and a retreat. Campus Ministry supports the religious, spiritual, and service aspects of the college. The office organizes domestic and international service-immersion experiences, local service activities, religious services, spiritual retreats, peace and justice activities, and other great things. The students also get acclimated to Buffalo including the surrounding neighborhood, Canalside, and Niagara Falls. Lastly, students are able to develop a close relationship with a cohort of their classmates early.
Resident students will move in during the first day. Commuters will commute. The program precedes orientation and ends with breakfast on the morning orientation begins. Freshmen then immediately transition into orientation. All meals and program transportation will be provided. Participants are expected to abide by the Canisius Community Standards and be present for all activities.
A $125 fee will be required of participants to cover the cost of food and transportation. The fee is due upon acceptance to the program. Scholarships are available. Applications for the 2019 CMI experience are available on the Accepted Students’ Portal. Students participating the ULLC program or Bio Bootcamp are not eligible because of conflicting schedules.
CMI is led by the Campus Ministry staff and student leaders. The program will be going into its 12th year and has been the springboard for many of our students and alumni into finding a niche in the Canisius community. Current students can apply to be leaders for the fall 2019 program.
Current students can also get a taste of Campus Ministry by participating in Kairos, a three-day, two-night retreat that is offered three times a year by Campus Ministry or by participating in local, domestic, or international service-immersion experiences.
