Association for Women and Men in Communication – The Association for Women & Men in Communication is one of 185 chapters in the country. Its goal is to help members grow as professionals in the communication field. This club welcomes both males and females interested in learning more about the field of communication studies. Many of our members are communication, digitial media arts or multimedia journalism majors. This club holds regular meetings, semester dinners, networking and speaker events, and “field trips” to local organizations that employ communication graduates. All members share a genuine interest in forming relationships with current students, faculty, alumni and professionals employed in communication-related fields.
Digital Media Arts Club – The Digital Media Arts Club aims to provide a source of networking between not only Digital Media Arts students, but all students and clubs at Canisius while fostering an atmosphere for creative expression and the exchange of ideas through collaboration. We hold weekly meetings, attend DMA and art related events, and host other special events such as exhibitions and lectures. Our ambition is to work with area professionals and employers in these fields to sponsor portfolio reviews and educate students about career opportunities. We hope to develop strong working relationships amongst our student members in an effort to form a learning community within the fields of digital media and art.
Canisius College Television (CCTV) – Students obtain “hands-on” experience through their involvement in producing weekly television programs that air campus-wide. Members of this student club develop an understanding of both on-air and behind-the-scenes aspects of television production including audio production, directing, lighting and producing.
CCTV also assists with videotaping on-campus events, including the annual Mr. Canisius competitions, Little Theatre shows, and other events. These opportunities give students real-life field production experience. Also, club members are involved in the video streaming of Canisius College Basketball games from the Koessler Athletic Center (KAC) and have recently begun web casting the Golden Griffin Hockey games from the Buffalo State Ice Arena or the Amherst Pepsi Center.
The Griffin – The student newspaper of Canisius College since 1933. Our office hours are 2 p.m.- 12 a.m. on Thursdays and 5-6 p.m. on Mondays. In addition to going to an all-color newspaper this semester, The Griffin also released a brand new website! Be sure to add it to your favorites bar for campus news as it happens.
Public Relation Student Society of America – The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) founded PRSSA, with a goal to foster mutually advantageous relationships between students and professional public relations practitioners. The student society actively promotes the following:
• Understanding of current theories and procedures of the profession
• Appreciation of the highest ethical ideals and principles
• Awareness of an appropriate professional attitude
• Appreciation of associate and eventually accredited membership in PRSA
Society of Professional Journalists – The Society of Professional Journalists promotes the field of journalism and the free flow of information to the public. As a club, its members hope to create a positive reputation of journalism and educate others about journalistic issues.
The Video Institute – The award-winning Canisius College Video Institute provides students with opportunities to put their classroom lessons to work on projects that enrich their learning and benefit the greater community. Students produce social documentaries and service-oriented videos – all connected by the theme of social justice – to promote discourse on ethical, social and cultural issues relevant to the world today. It provides students with a context for real-world learning and for doing social justice.
