Shine On at Let There Be Light International

My name is Kyra Laurie. I am a junior at Canisius College where I double major in Strategic Communication and Digital Media Arts with a minor in Leadership. This semester, I am the Energy Poverty Intern at Let There Be Light International (LTBLI). This non-profit organization focuses on combatting energy poverty in vulnerable off-grid communities and fights global climate change.

Throughout my first few weeks at my internship, I have been working closely with the Executive and Deputy Directors. This Thursday, September 15th, we are launching the Lights 4 Literacy Back-to-School Campaign. The goal is to raise $4,500 to donate 300 lights to students in Africa. In this process, I have developed a social media and communications plan for the week before, two weeks during, and one week after the fundraiser. Additionally, I have created the infographics and posts for the four social media platforms.

Going forward, I will be assisting the Executive Director with an art show coming up in October that showcases one of LTBLI’s Artists in Residence (an artist who works with the organization remotely from various areas in Africa) as well as developing and running the Shine On Students Campaign. I am very excited to get involved with the Shine on Students Campaign because it focuses on advocating the basic need for light in grass-root communities in Africa on college campuses and determining how to engage college students in this mission.

I am really excited to dive deep into my internship and truly make a difference!
