As I wrap up my last week at Camp Good Days, I find myself thinking about all the new things I learned during this semester. I am so grateful to have had such a wonderful experience interning at Camp Good Days and to have had the opportunity to not only learn about social media and PR, but also to have learned about the organization. Camp Good Days is a non-profit organization that works to provide children who have been diagnosed with cancer and siblings who have or have lost someone to cancer, with experiences that cancer has taken away from them; being a kid. After the pandemic hit, the organization had to adjust its events in order to accommodate their kids and keep them and their families safe. Now that summer is approaching, the organization is excited to be able to get back to “normal” events and programming along with Camp sessions.

While I feel my time at Camp Good Days flew by, I am grateful to have learned so many useful skills during my internship. As I reflect on the goals I made early on in the semester, I am pleased to say I met those goals and even went beyond them. My main goals were to learn how to use and navigate the email marketing tool Mailchimp, contribute to writing press releases for upcoming events, and create social media content for Camp Good Days that is appealing and relevant to current and potential followers. I also learned how to use the Facebook Meta Business Suite publishing tool for scheduling posts for Instagram and Facebook. I will say that while I still need to work on my confidence in asking questions, I did gain confidence in writing press releases and creating/publishing social media content which is very valuable to me.

During my time at Camp Good Days, I learned not only how to work and manage my time in a professional setting, but I also learned how important it is to use interpersonal skills as much as possible as they are crucial for all fields of work. It is bittersweet to be leaving my internship as I feel there is so much more I could do, but I also know that I worked my hardest when I was there and created content I knew was going to make the organization’s followers happy and also reflect positively on Camp Good Days.
