As my internship at The W Spa comes to an end I want to reflect on all the challenges and triumphs I’ve had this semester.

Throughout this internship, I’ve worked to improve on two things. First, my self-confidence — when it comes to my professional life. In the beginning of my internship, I was not confident in curating, creating, and organizing tri-weekly content for the social media platforms. Now, I am able to come up with the content on my own and post it on the spa’s social media platforms without any need for approval.

Next, I believe my assertiveness has improved. As a social media marketer, it is my job to search out content, therefore, I have to ask others for assistance. At the beginning of the internship, I had a hard time seeking out the estheticians because I was virtual. By the end of the internship (with the spa being open) it was easier to form connections with people, asking them for help.

One project that I am particularly proud of is one that I call “social media cohesiveness at The W Spa.” With The W Spa transitioning into a co-op business, I created this project in an effort to implement a new hire training that lets the estheticians play a role in social media content creation.

How does this work?

Step 1 – Introduce the new hires to our Co-op structure, AKA we are the marketing team and you are a part of it!

Step 2 – new estheticians get their very own professional account to post their work.

Step 3 –  Implement social media content training to maintain cohesiveness across accounts!

All of the separate estheticians’ accounts will have relatively the same handles (@thewspa_emma), with all bios tagging The W Spa. The goal of this is to curate more content, having multiple avenues for new clients to reach us, estheticians can show off their work, reaching a younger market, and have the ability to be your own boss in the co-op structure!

Overall, The W Spa has taught me so much about what it’s like to be a part of a flourishing small business built on trust, honesty, and friendship & I am so lucky to have started my professional career with these ladies!
