I attended the Geico-Info Table Networking Event on December 3, 2019, the event went from 10:00 am to until 1:00 pm, at Canisius College’s Horan O’Donnell Science Building, Career Development Suite.

It was a small event, and their mission was to give information about Geico hiring interns and full-time jobs. There were only three people from Geico hosting the event. The Regional Campus Recruiter, Taylor Beatty, mainly explained who they are looking for and what types of job positions they are offering. It sounded like they were more aiming for juniors for the intern position but they also have open job positions for seniors who are looking for full time.

I like how they set up job positions. You have to start from the bottom in order to get a higher position. If you want to work for them you have to start with a job position that is taking care of customers on the phone, retail, or other entry-level positions. The company is really big on promotion so they do not hire any external HR or Management because they want people to have a better experience with the Company and develop their new hires. They want you to have experience with goals, leadership and customer service before getting promoted for higher positions.

This is my first time that I went to a one-table networking event. Compared to the Griff Fair at Science Hall that I went to, the Geico event was completely the opposite. Although, I learned the basics about how Geico operated. I asked them about Marketing, Graphic Designing, and forecasting positions because I did not know they are separate operations and locations. They explained that they have a main Corporate Headquarters in Washington D.C., which is not related to insurance, but mostly for design, marketing, analysis, and more. They could not explain more detail because they are not those types of recruiters. However, they said they can give me the contact information of the recruiter for those types of positions.

Finally, It was kind of better they only had one company at the event because we had a chance for more one-on-one attention, and there were not too many people so they can remember us better.
