What made me choose Helm Experience and Design as my internship was there stellar website/portfolio. The work they did was inspiring and their website is one of the most beautiful websites I have ever seen. They have an amazing visual identity and I could tell right away they were unique. Once I met my supervisors Nicholas and Jonothan, I knew I wanted to intern at Helm. Their convivial personalities made me feel welcomed.

I cannot believe how much I already learned at my internship. Being around a group of people with the experience and knowledge that Helm has is invaluable. One of the most important things I have learned so far is teamwork. With UX Design, it is important to ask a lot of questions and get many people’s perspective on what you should do with an idea. Another advantage of becoming comfortable with teamwork is how a workflow is established between employees. Usually, many employees will take a piece of an overall project. So it is important you are constantly and consistently pushing your changes and contacting your team with questions and concerns. If you haven’t had much experience with that kind of workflow, it may actually be tough to get used to.

Albeit it is amazing that I am learning so much at my internship, it is a wake-up call as well. I still have a lot to learn before I can become a great Web Designer/Developer. Some work I have been accomplishing shows signs of growing pains and adjusting into a work environment. But going through these growing pains are what will make me progress with my career and will always happen to people trying new things. I have had a magnificent time and my internship so far and I am really looking forward to the rest of the semester!
