This semester I attended the March Griff Fair that was hosted in Science Hall. This consisted of various companies from all around Buffalo and the surrounding area setting up tables and talking with students about potential job opportunities. There were a combination of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations in attendance, from a variety of different industries.

I was incredibly nervous going in to this because I had never been to a job fair before, and was feeling the pressure of finding a job with graduation being so close. All the people and tables were very overwhelming at first, but I was able to adjust rather quickly to it all. I got the chance to talk a woman who works at a school for underprivileged youth in Buffalo, and she was actually looking for someone to help fill a marketing role, so connecting with her and getting her information was very helpful.

I would say that the most frustrating part of the experience was that it seemed like there was a table specifically about every industry/area of study besides advertising and marketing. There were technology, education, healthcare, and social service organizations there, and it was daunting trying to approach people because what I was interested in is just a department, and not what the company itself is about. So every table interaction felt like a gamble with whether or not they were looking for someone with my particular skill/knowledge set.
