This was my first networking event that I have ever attended so I really did not know what to expect. I knew that a few of the professionals that were going to be there I had already met before which helped with whatever anxious feelings I was having prior to the event.
If I could take anything out of this event, besides networking, I learned two things which I feel are extremely important. The first was that you do not really realize how broad of a major communication is until you talk to different professionals. There are so many things you can do with a major like communication and I don’t think I was ever really aware of that until this event.
The second, was I amazed at how many professionals at the event were Canisius alumni and how fresh out of college they are. It really is a great feeling to see people you went to school with out there in the so-called “real world” and doing well. It kind of gives you the feeling that you made the right choice in your decision.
Overall it was a great night, I was able to meet and pick the brains of a few professionals in the media industry along with some other fields that I don’t see myself in. It was a great experience, especially considering we spoke with someone from a Human Resource department who gave me some pointers about what she looks for on a resume.
