It is so hard to believe that my internship at Rich Products will be coming to a close at the end of next week. It is even harder to believe that my time at Canisius College will also be coming to an end soon as I prepare to graduate in a few weeks. It is hard to grasp the fact that I will not be doing another internship through Canisius College. This journey may be ending, but a new one is beginning. My time spent at Rich’s, though brief, has taught me so much about myself and allowed me to grow as a professional.

One of my main goals when I started my internship at Rich’s was to learn to use my voice more and speak up with opinions I have regarding certain topics. I have always had a huge fear of speaking in public. Although some people may not consider this under that category, even speaking out and offering my own views in a group discussion often gives me anxiety. However, I made it a goal of mine for this internship to get more involved in the conservation and be willing to offer my insight. Rich’s and those I worked closely with made it feel like what I had to say mattered. Instead of being treated as an intern, I was valued like a full-time associate. This provided me with a huge boost of confidence and I am now more willing to express myself and my opinions now in a professional setting.

This internship provided me with the proper tools in order to go out and be successful in whatever path I decide to take and pursue. One of the best pieces of advice that I received from my internship supervisor was to be willing to go above and beyond and make a name for yourself. As a young professional, you want to stand out from the pack. Do not be satisfied with the work that they have given you. Instead, ask pertinent questions and see if there is anything additional you can do to help. Take that initiative because somebody else will if you are not willing to do so. Of course, you don’t want to overwhelm yourself if you already have a lot on your plate. However, showing passion for your work is key. These are some things that I hope to work on and improve further in the future.

I am so grateful for this internship experience. I would not trade this internship for the world and will always treasure how Rich’s welcomed me into their family.  Definitely 10/10 would recommend.

Thank you Rich’s. Thank you Canisius.
