My internship with The Bee this semester was great! I was able to cover a variety of sporting events and write various feature stories. Most importantly, I now have a better grasp on what would be expected of me if I choose to enter that industry after graduation. That was my number one goal of the internship, so I’m glad I accomplished that. There are strict deadlines for the job. I would cover various sports from many different high schools, something that I was happy with because I was able to get a good variety of covering different sports.
Over the course of the semester, I was able to become a better journalist and writer. The key to doing that was simply repetition. I asked the other sports reporters to critique my work and I then just built on the suggestions that they gave to me. I felt like every story that I wrote was better than my last. I know that I can still improve my writing and this is something that I will be working on in the future by continuing to write.
I’m glad I was given the opportunity to intern with The Bee this semester. I would recommend interning at The Bee to anyone that is interested in pursuing a career in print journalism.
