I am fortunate that my internship supervisor has asked me to stay over the summer and work with the Calspan Corporation marketing team. I am extremely lucky because they recently hired a new marketing director that I already have learned a lot from and look forward to learning more. Instead of focusing on my internships and even time at Canisius coming to an end, I want to take the time to reflect on what I have learned and my own advice to students.
My first piece of advice is to keep an open mind. I struggled with deciding where to intern, and thought I needed to be at a well known company or within a large corporation. I have learned that this is definitely not the case. It is more important to intern a place that you will learn, rather than to intern somewhere simply for the name on the building. Sometimes this might even be a small start up that is relatively unheard of; that is okay! Internships are about gaining perspective as well as experience. Being open minded is the key to having a successful interview as well as a successful career.
