I attended the M&T Bank Meet and Greet on September 9, 2016. It was held in the Grupp Fireside Lounge in the Richard E. Winter Student Center at Canisius College. Essentially, there was a one-hour information session where a representative from M&T talked about the history of the bank, the different branches of the bank, what is expected of a prospective student applying for a position. After that, there was a one-hour networking event where we met the other representatives from M&T. As far as the people who went to the event, most of them were business or accounting majors. There were a few math majors, and fewer computer science and digital media arts majors. The representatives from M&T were mostly business or accounting, as far as what branch of the bank they were a part of. There was also one person from IT and Audit, and two people from Technology. For the most part, the person from IT and Audit said that his job was mostly calculating risk/gain and taking care of the servers. The people from Technology dealt with user interaction with the online banking website as well as their new mobile banking app. They also deal with data analysis.

Before attending the networking event, I was not even considering M&T Bank as a viable option for a job. I also did not know a thing about M&T. For example, M&T Bank has been around for 160 years, and they are in fact a worldwide bank that has its headquarters in Buffalo. On top of that, M&T is looking for recent college graduates. At this networking event, they also had descriptions for two jobs, both of which were accepting from all majors and only required a bachelor’s degree. On top of that, it is easy to have multiple careers while still being an employee of M&T. The one representative said she was in about six different careers, in at least three different branches of the bank. The woman from Technology held at least two different careers in the Technology branch of the bank. The networking event overall was very helpful in making me realize that even a seemingly far-fetched job should still be looked into.
