Looking back at this semester, I can say I am very proud of all of my achievements at the Botanical Gardens. Everyday was a new day, and I was constantly learning something new. Whether it be a professional tip, lingo used in the organization, or understanding how a non-profit runs day to day, I was able to apply what I have learned in various classes to what I was learning there. I wrote so many press releases and I enjoyed that a lot. I didn’t realize how often press releases are in various newspapers, but once I started doing them, I really was able to open up my creative side. One of the best things about writing the press releases was that I was able to see them published. I would go through the paper and point them out to myself and say “Hey! I wrote that, and that and that!” I also got to do a lot with social media and was able to increase the number of followers they had as well as likes. I thought it was very important to keep their social media updated because sometimes it can be hard to draw people to the Gardens for certain events. I enjoyed the Gala and got to experience the madness there. That entire event was so crazy, but I got to see how everyone worked together as one big team. One of my favorite experiences there was when the palm trees came down and Channel 2, 4, 7, and The Buffalo News showed up. That was so much fun and I never imagined I would get to do something like that. I really enjoyed my time at the Gardens and I’m going to miss it. I can’t imagine having a role like Erin’s because she is constantly busy and doing so many different tasks from day to day. While she has all of these tasks to complete, she’s always positive and you can really tell she loves her job. I learned to be more confident, more assertive, and to not be afraid to voice my opinion. This internship was a really good fit for me and I can’t wait to see how things move along with them in the future. They are under a lot of pressure right now finishing a lot of projects, and even though I won’t be their intern, I’m going to be keeping in touch to see how everything turns out!
