Anybody placed in a new environment would be nervous from not knowing what to expect, but I’d like to think that’s why God gave us senses. When placed in a new environment, not everything is obvious and that’s where using our senses comes into play. When we get a feel of the culture in the workplace, we can adapt, and have opportunities to grow by fully experiencing what is new. I told myself that my first day of my internship, and the days then after were each going to be different, and I repeated this in my mind as I arrived 15 minutes early to make sure I was on time. I didn’t expect to learn much that first day, but I was eager to try and be more open when it came to expressing my various media interests. I was asked numerous questions about myself by faculty, who all gave me some insight into their stories and why they loved doing what they do. When asked what I wanted to do after to college, I replied with an honest answer… “I’m unsure, and I’m looking for guidance… I mean… I know what I like, and I like a lot… but, is there a way I can combine everything I like into one profession?”  I felt frazzled after that question until my supervisor walked in on the conversation and said “Well, that’s what they call a jack, you can do it all, you can even do it all at once… But do you have the drive to?”… I was then tasked to organize DVDs by year, month and day dating back from 2004 to 2014. I completed my task, correctly, and within the very short time I was there that day. I wanted everyone to know I was driven, and the next day I was asked to help set up an event for the induction of new Firefighter recruits, and even had a pretty cool interaction with the Mayor while doing so. I’m still getting a feel for the culture here at Apollo Media, but as the days go by I hope to grow in my knowledge, and adapt to this new environment.
