My internship at Inside Sales Team, more commonly referred to as IST, has been a wake up call to the working world. The basis for my reflection on the past couple of weeks is to let students know that you can always improve on your work.

My internship is in Content Marketing under their marketing director. IST is a outsourced marketing and sales firm that reaches out to organizations for accounts. These accounts pay for IST sales and marketing team in order to get quick results for their company. Everything at my internship is driven by research and results; we will always look at the best option. A normal day at my internship starts at eleven in the morning and goes until three in the afternoon. IST really worked with my schedule and gave me the hours that the credits require. My goal as an intern is to write content emails in the mindset of the sales department, trying to get customers to purchase or sign up for our products and services. I write personal, short, action driven emails to CEO’s, CFO’s, and others about the opportunity they can have working with the company we outsource for.

There is always room for improvement and that my biggest goal; to get the edits for my writing. I am aiming to work with the people and not get consumed by the tasks. I am branching out in the office now. IST is a fun place to work where I really get to know the people of Buffalo, the city of good neighbors.

If I had any advice it would be this: get ready earlier, get out there and meet people to get to know your audience. To me, marketing has been about understanding and reading people. Take the time out of your day to learn stories and imagine your customer. Inside Sales is going to be quiet the adventure!
