I’m so fortunate to have the opportunities presented to me during my Internship in the Marketing/Public Affairs department of Roswell Park. A few things stand out as I reflect: the Tree of Hope event (my first day on the job lol), dealing with crisis communication, assisting with a Prostate Screening event put together alongside the Sabres, the Bridge of Hope and completing my first Public Relations interview. Alongside all of these events, I was immersed into the world of PR and learned how Marketing and all of creative services must collaborate extensively. As an intern, I was asked to preform various communication duties such as write articles for internal communication on multiple topics, assist with Press Releases, be aware of social media, assist with events, the list could go on and on. These tasks created some overwhelming aspects due to trying to grasp all the details surrounding every task, a feat as an intern is simply not possible. However, being able to work on various tasks provided me with skills in avenues most interns do not get experience with. There are several areas where I’ve gained more knowledge and improved, but specifically understanding the importance of internal communications, understanding social media analytics, and working through an event from start to finish are experiences I will be putting to very good use, wherever I end up. I write this as a final review but it’s not truthfully a “final” review. I’ve been asked to continue the internship during the summer and assist with The Ride for Roswell, an opportunity I’m very blessed to be granted.
