On March 28th, I went to Roswell Park with AWMC and some of my fellow classmates for a day of networking and learning. Dr. Wanzer put the day together for members of the club so that we could go and meet with several people working in communication related fields.  We basically went from department to department throughout the day meeting several different people.  We started off in the creative services department and talked with Heidi Findlay, the Marketing Communications Manager, as well as some other people who worked in the department.  Then we went and talked to Mary Rose McDermott, who works in the donations and funds department at Roswell. Mary gave us an overview of the history at Roswell as well as some advice on how to prepare for interviews and jobs once we graduate.  After talking with Mary we went over to the volunteer department and learned about how we can get involved and help volunteer at Roswell followed by a trip to the special events department.  We also, talked to  Adam Kisailus who works in the research department and finally, our tour guide for the day, Emily Marciniak, brought us to her department: pediatric special events.  By the end of our trip we had talked to countless people, all of which were extremely nice and welcoming.  I didn’t realize how many different jobs you could hold with a communication studies degree and the people we met all offered their help in the future should we have any questions.  This networking trip was a complete success and I may even try to do my next internship with Roswell if I get the chance.
