Upon beginning this internship opportunity at Kaleida Health as their Internal Communications intern I was very scared and nervous. I did not know what to expect and I did not believe that I could perform up to par. My goal was to learn a different side of Health Care and experience public relations first hand. I did not think that I was going to be very in PR because of my very poor writing skills.

What I learned was that your team will be there every step of the way to accomplish your goals. I learned that an internship is an opportunity not only for experience to put on a resume or say you have seen it first happen but an opportunity for you to grow, shape and learn more about your craft. I gained a new insight into the corporate world that the littlest things like print layout or consistent format make all the difference because you never know who will see the document. Most of all I learned a lot from my supervisor Melissa who is a very strong woman that is spread thin but still manages to excel in everything she is a part of. I wish I had more time to learn from her especially.

I was fortunate enough to experience a lot of what Kaleida Health’s communications department has to offer in the short time I have spent here. I saw the good the bad and the ugly. How service, communication or a picture need to be conveyed a certain way that can change lives.

Surprisingly, this internship has me very enthusiastic about pursuing more public relations internships for the summer.
