I attended a networking event hosted by Canisius College’s Public Relations Student Society of America.  The event was Thursday, April 24 at Montante Cultural Center.  The event began with two speakers, Zach from 15 Finger and Therese from Buffalo Niagara Partnership.  They reflected on their personal experiences and how they got to where they are today.  It then went into a speed networking session, where students were able to meet with 6 Communication Professionals.  Speakers told about their professional experiences and students were able to ask questions.

Overall, I felt the event was extremely beneficial.  It was well organized and provided a variety of professionals from different fields in Communication.  This allowed students the opportunity to see the various directions they could pursue a career in.  It opened up my eyes by showing me there are endless amounts of opportunities.  By personally speaking with the professionals, I was able to connect and develop relationships with them.  It allowed me the chance to ask questions that could benefit me professionally.  It showed me that my goals are obtainable and I should find a career that I enjoy, like these individuals were lucky enough to do.

There were over 60 people that attended, including students from Canisius, Fredonia and Buffalo State.  I felt it was extremely beneficial to have students there from other Colleges because it allowed for a different outlook.  They were able to provide different insights and questions to the networkers.

The event will be held again next year with even more networking professionals.  It is extremely beneficial and I suggest that students attend if they have the opportunity to do so.
