As the end of my first month with the Marketing and Public Affairs Departments at Roswell Park draws near reflecting on the things I’ve been involved with so far provides a great platform for the next several months.

Rewinding back to when I went in prior to the start of my internship  to meet the team and help out with an event, I knew that this internship would provide awesome experience and guidance to wherever I land next. During this event I was able to assist with a Basket Raffle, which, due to short handedness, I was trusted to run myself. I had a great time despite the stress that comes with pulling off an event.
Fast-forward to my official first days in January. I was thrown into the most shocking PR experience I’ve ever had. RPCI faced a situation in front of the campus. I was blown away by the pro-activeness of the Public Affairs department and the materials the team and I passed out to the ground floor in case anyone had questions. Evaluating the situation afterwards provided understanding on what the team did well and what we could’ve improved upon. Even though it was technically my second day, I was glad I was involved to witness the best practices in PR and Public Affairs.

Things have calmed down since the beginning and I’m now grasping all the moving parts of the departments, writing articles for an internal database and I just started working on my first Press Release. The excitement and “craziness” of these events is what Marketing and PR are all about and I look forward to the days when I’m sitting at my desk working on articles as well as the days when I’m involved with events and “situations.” It’s been a busy month to a say the least and I loved being a part of it every minute.
