On November 15, I attended an event hosted by the Alliance Francaise de Buffalo held at Buffalo Seminary. It was a brunch event with many French language enthusiasts of all levels from around the community. The event was structured around the presentation of Dr. Eric Bedard, an expert on Quebec. There was time for congregating, meeting, and discussing both before and after his speaking. As difficult as I thought networking would be in French, it was actually easier. When I felt nervous or could not find the words that I wanted to say, my conversation partners were always very forgiving and helpful because French is my second language. I met teachers, fellow students, businesspeople who use French in their careers, and even the director of the Alliance. I think this event was great for my confidence level and will inspire me to attend more of this nature. If I can network in French, doing the same in English should be a piece of cake!
