I started my internship at Eric Mower + Associates (EMA) and so far it has been great! I was very nervous on my first day because of the idea of meeting new people, being late, or having a clumsy moment. My first day went great and none of those “clumsy moments” happened! I walked around the agency with my supervisor and met many great people. The environment is very friendly and everyone is pretty laid back but professional, which is good. Also, the agency is quite a bit bigger than what I had imagined.
Now I am in my third week and I have been given my first job that is field related. I checked my email and I have been chosen to work with a team to create banners that will hang from light posts for the Chippewa Alliance. This organization is a group of business leaders, schools, residents, bars and restaurants committed to building on the development momentum on the street. Their goal is to improve the district, making it a destination neighborhood in the heart of downtown Buffalo. I am very excited to start doing design work and working with the team for this project. I am a Buffalonian and this is very important to me.
So far I really like my internship and think I have made the correct choice. I am looking forward to continueing on as the semester goes along. I feel that I will learn many new things and get some design pieces for my portfolio, which are my goals. Learning how an ad agency operates, working with a team, gaining more knowledge in design aesthetics, and getting some portfolio pieces are all goals that I feel I will gain from this experience.
