To be honest, I was not quite sure what this internship would bring. Communications can be a broad major. There are so many different areas that one could become involved with. I had hoped that this internship would help me narrow down some of the possibilities. If I had to describe this internship I would say that it was: a little bit of marketing, a little bit of PR, and a little bit of advertising. This turned out to be good because it helped me understand a portion of each area and see what I liked and did not like. I have to say that my favorite part of this whole internship was being exposed to the “social media marketing” end. My intern supervisor and I were able to teach each other things in this area. He was able to show be good ways to target audiences and pick appropriate content, and I was able to show him tools that could help make posts better (e.g., hoot suite and Photoshop). It was pretty cool to see Facebook and Twitter used beyond posts about what people had for lunch!

This summer I will be entering the doors of a new internship and will have to go through the same growing pains that I faced this semester; however, I am fully confident that if I go into it with a good attitude and a willingness to reciprocate knowledge and skills with my new intern supervisor, I will have no problem!
