Fall 2025 course spaces are now available in D2L.

For faculty looking to merge courses, please see the D2L: SIS Course Merge Wiki Page. Note that, while you may merge courses now, we recommend waiting until closer to the start of the semester, mid-July or early August. Faculty can still add content to the primary course. This is because unmerging a course can have unintended consequences. Other issue of unmerging courses include student submissions to the primary course “disappearing”, including but not limited Dropbox submissions, Discussion Posts, and/or grades from the gradebook. Additional information can be found at the bottom of the D2L: SIS Course Merge Wiki Page. Finally, when merging courses, please pay close attention to the naming conventions outlined in the D2L: SIS Course Merge Wiki Page. This helps ITS and COLI staff easily determine whether or not a course space is merged or not, providing better service and answers should questions or issues arise.

Wondering why it seems that course spaces are “late” this year? Due to the new merge tool, we have updated how Banner, the internal database that contains course and student data, talks to D2L. To ensure that accurate information is sent the first time, course spaces will now open up 90 days before the start of the semester. This allows accurate information to be inputted into Banner and corrections to be made before they are sent to D2L. For the Spring 2026 semester, course spaces should be available mid- to late-October 2025.
