  • Do you want students to see their calculated overall or average grade within D2L’s grades area? See our Tutorial!
  • Do you have students who need access to course content, after the end of the semester, in order to complete an incomplete? Here’s how you can make that happen.
  • Would you like to make your course space available to all students, after the end of the semester, so they can review their grades or even course content? You can set an end date for D2L course spaces, later than the default.
  • Export your gradebook to archive in your personal records by the week after grades are due. See our tutorial on Exporting Grades.
  • For safe-keeping, download an archival copy of your D2L course content at the end of each term. See our tutorial on Archiving a Course.
  • You may wish to copy your course content into course spaces available for Fall 2021 courses. But we’ve seen where some faculty have forgotten that they did this in May, and do it again in July – which creates an extra chore: deleting duplicate content! Plus, sometimes course and section organization changes in the summer. So we recommend waiting to copy your course content, until you are ready to begin preparing it for the Fall. Then, we have a tutorial that can help!

Summer is also a good time to take care of digital chores. Here’s some tips:

  1. Some “low-attention” tasks are great for multi-tasking while watching TV: delete, or file emails you want to keep. (Remember, emails stored in your inbox disappear after 120 days!) We generally use summertime to clean out online storage of old, disused files that clutter up our Google Drive or OneDrive screen and search results when we are looking for other things. Download or delete files you aren’t likely to use in future.
  2. Why not change your passwords, and experiment with multi-factor authentication, while the pressure of day-to-day teaching is off, or low?
  3. In general, Backup, Backup, Backup! If any digital file is possibly essential, save a copy of it in multiple places! We like the 3-2-1 backup plan.
  4. Want to get started on that tenure or promotion portfolio? We’ve got a guide to building a navigable PDF that’s perfect for this!
  5. Summer can be a great time to pickup some tech skills, especially at a leisurely pace. COLI has a variety of workshops that are ideal for this. We also have plenty of tutorials on our wiki page.
