Canisius University phased out Turnitin after the Fall 2024 Semester and replaced it with Copyleaks.
Copyleaks is a bit different than Turnitin as it is not integrated into the D2L Dropbox Tool. Instead, instructors need to create a Copyleaks Assignment for students to upload their work to:
- Create an Assignment
- Create an Assignment in D2L (Video) – Transcript
- Learn how to create a Copyleaks Assignment, useful for automatically scanning all documents submitted by students.
- NOTE: It may be a good idea to set up a D2L Dropbox in addition to the Copyleaks Assignment. This way, students having trouble submitting to the Copyleaks Assignment can, instead, submit to the D2L Dropbox. Instructors will also need to install the Teacher Scan tool into their course spaces to scan these individual documents.
On a more positive note, Copyleaks does allow for faculty to scan individual assignments as needed using the Teacher Scanning Tool:
- Use the Teacher Scanning Tool
- Teacher Scan Tool in D2L – Transcript
- The Scanning Tool allows faculty to upload individual documents and scan them for plagiarism and AI detection.
We highly recommend adding the following links to your D2L Course spaces:
- Copyleaks: Troubleshooting Copyleaks
- Having issues with Copyleaks? Try these troubleshooting steps.
- Copyleaks: Students View Instructor Comments
- This page highlights how students can view Comments left to them by Instructors on a Copyleaks Assignment.
- Instructors Please Note: The option to “Expose originality report to students” must be ticked. This can be done when you create the assignment or after you are done grading the assignment by going to the assignment and selecting Edit Assignment in the upper-right.
Additional tutorials and information on Copyleaks can be found on the Copyleaks Wiki Page.
