Recently, Professor Richard Reitsma gave two public presentations at the Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla, in Puebla, Mexico. In “The Development of LGBTQII+ Rights in Cuba,” and “Local and Jesuit Responses to the Migration Crisis in the U.S.” Professor Reitsma discussed different contemporary justice movements in the Americas and the Caribbean. The latter talk focused particularly on the Borders and Migrations Initiative here at Canisius College.

This summer, Professor Reitsma taught a graduate course at IBERO Puebla,  “Chronicle and Testimonial Literature,” and accompanied Canisius students attending intensive language immersion programs. These activities contributed to the strong ties between our Jesuit institutions, particularly in shared efforts for justice in a global context.
