Welcome to the blog of the Be the Light Youth Theology Institute at Canisius College! Here, you can find thoughts from our participants, student leaders, staff members, and, perhaps even guest posts from friends of the Institute.
Be the Light started in 2015 when inaugural directors Dr. Stephen Chanderbhan and Sarah Signorino received a grant from the Lilly Foundation to begin work on a youth theology institute for high school students that would be hosted by Canisius College. Because Canisius is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States, Steve and Sarah centered the Institute’s mission on solidarity, spirituality, and social justice in Buffalo, New York, a city experiencing its own renaissance.
Since its beginning, Be the Light has had over 40 participants, and we completed our third iteration of the Institute in July. Our students have come from all over the world to walk with us in Buffalo, and we’ve seen so much growth since they’ve completed the program. And there’s still so much more to come!
So keep your eyes peeled for updates from our little BTLI community!
