Christopher R. Lee, PhD, associate professor of religious studies and theology, has been appointed Director of the Graduate Scholarship Office effective January 2012.  He will replace Nancy J. Rosenbloom, PhD, professor of history, who has been the director in recent years.  She will return to full-time teaching in her department.

The primary responsibility of the office is to identify outstanding students and assist them in applying for prestigious national and international scholarships such as Fulbright, Truman, Udall, Boren, Gilman, Goldwater, Javits, and others.  Lee will work closely with a scholarship committee to achieve this goal.  Members of Canisius Community may refer top students who appear to have the qualifications for graduate scholarships.

Lee’s academic interests are the anthropology of religion, religion in South Asia, Islam, and Hinduism.  He has won a number of awards such as a Fulbright-Hayes Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Humanities award for the study of his specialization, the effect of globalization on traditional poetry and arts in South Asia.  He will continue to teach a reduced schedule in the Department of Religious Studies and Theology.
