Modern Family
By James | March 7, 2012
I have recently begun watching the television show Modern Family. I’m in love. In the span of two weeks I swept through BOTH the first and second seasons on DVD.
First, if you don’t watch this show yet – start watching it now before it hits the season five/six slump in a few years. Even though it’s received a ton of great reviews and awards, they are still sticking true to the original story line and letting the characters grow into themselves instead of forcing them to become something they’re not. An example of a character becoming someone they are not would be Ryan in the Office becoming this super hipster and mysterious guy. In the first three seasons he was hilarious because he was too smart to be in the office to begin with. It’s a shame – he had a lot of potential.
Second, it has an all-star cast. When the show started most of the main cast was relatively unknown, with the exception of Ed O’Neil who gained fame from the TV show Married with Children. Not only do the main characters feed off of each others improv ability, but they actually seem like a real family. I can literally picture my families Thanksgiving consisting of chucking pumpkins across a football field in order to prove a point (that happened in an episode, I didn’t just randomly come up with that thought, I wish I did now).
Lastly, everyone watches this show. I can turn to anyone in one of my Communication classes and begin talking about the show. It’s amazing. Plus, if you watch the show now you can say you started to watch it before it reached its popularity peak, who doesn’t love to say that? I know I do all the time with the Big Bang Theory, another show that you should begin to watch ASAP – it’s hilarious.
There you have it. Watch the show. It’s funny and only 30 minutes once a week at 9 p.m. on Wednesday’s on ABC.
Respond to this blog if you ever want to talk about it.
