Not Quite Spring Break

By Alex | March 25, 2011

This “Spring Break” hasn’t turned out to be quite the break I thought it would be.  The first two or three days were pretty nice, albeit a bit colder than I thought they would be, but I had high hopes for the rest of the week.  Then, on Wednesday morning, disaster struck.  It snowed, officially turning this “Spring Break” into something that more resembled a Winter Break.  I know we live in Buffalo where the snow is plentiful, but a full 6 inches towards the end of March? Seems a little unnecessary to me, Mother Nature.  So much for playing Kan Jam at my aunt’s house with my cousins, and so much for finally getting to wear shorts and sandals.  Instead, I get to spend about fifteen minutes brushing snow off of my car in the freezing cold.

Then, to make this break even more enjoyable, my body decided to get an ear infection the same day it snows.  Now it wasn’t too bad during the day, but when I tried to go to bed Wednesday night I was shivering uncontrollably despite our house being quite warm, and every time I swallowed I’d get a piercing pain in my inner ear.  This pain was so bad that I was barely able to sleep that night.  Yesterday I went to the doctor to get some antibiotics, but they don’t quite work as quickly as I’d like them to and so I spent most of the day sleeping on the couch.  My dad got me some ear drops for ear aches but they didn’t help much and so I had yet another night of relatively little sleep.  This morning the pain in my ear has persisted every time I swallow, but the fever I had the other day has gone down and on the average I’m feeling much better, so long as I don’t swallow.  Hopefully this will be the last day I’m in so much pain as I have two tests on Tuesday which I’d planned to study for today and the rest of the weekend.
