Trip to Rochester

By Angela | January 26, 2011

Over break, I was lucky enough to visit my friend Alicia in her hometown, Rochester. Alicia and I met here at Canisius. Although Rochester isn’t that far from Buffalo (only about an hour and fifteen minutes), it was nice to get out of Buffalo. Rochester City and The City of Buffalo are similar, but also very different.

Living in Buffalo, I am used to the city and everything it has to offer. To me, it’s cool to go to Rochester and go to their big coffee spot “Javas”, instead of going to Spot Coffee on Elmwood. Walking around the city there was so much more enjoyable, since I’ve never seen any of the buildings. I would always stop Alicia and ask “what building is that?” or “can we go there?”. It was funny because I was driving while also trying to look around at everything, which probably wasn’t the best idea. We drove past the Strong Museum which has the new butterfly exhibit. It’s a big glass window and you can see the butterflies flying around!

Everyone at Canisius that is from Rochester always talks about “garbage plates“. If you don’t know what a garbage plate is, it’s basically a styrofoam container filled with two hamburgers, mac salad, home fries and if you want, hot chili sauce. Since everyone was raving about this garbage plate, I thought I’d try one for myself. It looked really gross, but actually tasted good!

My trip to Rochester was a lot of fun. The city is great and so are the people. Not only did I learn a lot about the city, but I met a lot of great people! I can’t wait until I go back.
