Canisius is simply unique. For one thing, it is run and staffed by the Jesuits, a Roman Catholic religious order known for their commitment to social justice and education. Even if you’re not Catholic, studying in a Jesuit environment is vastly rewarding. Jesuit education is not indoctrination; it is nurturing and encouraging students to question preconceptions, find their own… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

There was a great deal of buildup to the day, considering how important it is: in a matter of minutes, I would have to race and select the classes I need for my major, minor, and honors coursework while hundreds of other students did likewise. Classes obviously have a limited number of seats in them, so it can be… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

As a second-semester freshman transfer student, I felt that I sort of started off on the wrong social foot. Whereas everyone around me and on my floor had been getting to know each other for months, I moved in the fresher freshman. However, The Griffin poses a great, unique social opportunity. For one thing, it is staffed with… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

However, the governments of these countries, including places like Cameroon, are no less despotic than that in the Congo. These governments have laws that allow them to arrest and deport escaped refugees back to their home countries, all of which is reminiscent of the Fugitive Slave Acts in the antebellum United States… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

When I left my account of my process of transferring, I was just deciding on where to start at college. I had been accepted to every school I had applied to, but my process of deciding wasn’t very thorough at all. I eventually decided on SUNY Geneseo because… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

I’m no film critic, but I can now tell why it won so many awards, beating out Black Swan, which I had thought would definitely win best picture (I will say, though, Black Swan seems to be the vanguard of a mainstream postmodernism (-ish) in film, and I welcome more films like it). Colin Firth and… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

The French Pub is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to eat in Buffalo, along with Pizza Plant (in the Walker Plaza on Main Street, Williamsville), Glenn Park Tavern (down the road on Main Street), and Panaro’s Restaurant (on Delaware Avenue). While the lunchtime crowd today at the French Pub was a little sparse, dinners can be packed… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

The last band was Mother Mother, apparently from Canada judging from their lead’s CBC button on his guitar strap. You should know two things: 1) I didn’t particularly care for them at all, and 2) yes, I am a music snob. Anyway, onwards: Dressed all in black, the lead singer sporting a curious… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

I like playing music and having colorful decor; my former roommate was silent, his decor limited to taped up legal pad sheets with science formulas. With that old method, the likelihood of being compatible is slim. Canisius’ new, innovative method, though, is a vast improvement. Rather than filling out a form and leaving the decision up to residence life, the we ourselves create “teams” for rooms… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…

As far as I’m concerned, there is no fantastical, divine revelation when picking schools, nor is there a special brand of magic fairy dust in every college’s particular atmosphere. Besides, I’m not one to fall in love with places; I need to experience them. More on that in later posts. Of course, midway through senior year, with school work piling up and stage three senioritis setting in… CLICK HERE TO READ MORE…
