I can’t believe this is the end…

I started off my blogging career here at Canisius through my “interview” self-reflection piece about my trip to Saudi Arabia. I started this program around the same time, the summer following my graduation from the University at Buffalo in 2010. The vast differences between Canisius and UB are unbelievable. I have made connections with professors, colleagues and classmates in the past two years that I can genuinely and honestly say will last through a lifetime. Canisius offers an amazing counseling program, which has turned me into a future professional school counselor.
This evening marks the end of two of three classes of the semester. One wise professor reminded us that we are counselors, no matter how many times we are referred to as educators practicing counseling. I am a professional counselor with an amazing degree from an exceptional school in Buffalo, NY. I have (almost) completed my 600-hour internship that seemed impossible three short months ago. I wish I could take home the 30 students on my caseload and offer them the life that I have lead (obviously financially impossible and I think taking all 30 is a little overachieving…).
On my graduate school growth chart, I’ve grown infinitely. I have gained skills to empower my profession, my clients/students and myself. I have met amazing people and have been humbled by my students making me realize how many things my parents have given up and given me making me the woman and counselor I am today.
Thank you to my parents and family, my friends and colleagues, my professors, cooperating counselor and students and a big shout out to Canisius College Master’s of Education in School Counseling Class of 2012, just like Elle Woods in Legally Blonde says, “we did it!!” I can’t believe this is the end…
