Wow – June 30th already? What an incredibly eventful month I’ve had. This past week alone has been very significant. As many of you may know, I finally headed to Rochester this past Thursday evening for an ablation procedure at Strong Memorial Hospital. The hope was that this procedure, which uses a special catheter to destroy problematic cells in the heart, would cure my heart arrhythmia. Going in, we didn’t know what would happen – if the procedure would be a success for me. Millions of questions and scenarios raced through my mind as I was prepped for surgery – anxious for answers.

On Saturday I completed my Summer Semester. My research proposal in the EDU615 Research Methods course was quite a lot of work but I loved every minute of it. I learned a lot about the process of searching the available literature with respect to my topic of interest and using that information to properly structure my own research methodology.

Hey folks!

Back again! I just finished my first summer class….or at least I hope! We had a final project due on the 23rd, which I finished and submitted to the Angel drop box for the class. I also was required to upload it into Taskstream. For those of you who don’t know, Taskstream is a system that allows students to upload assignments that go towards a particular subject. Some assignments might be common to many classes, and the teachers use this system to help with accreditation and for Physical Education NCATE teacher certification justification.

This week has been crunch time for me. I have been working non-stop with my group partner on our projects for our Principles of School Counseling class. We met on Sunday night to go over our thoughts for our final project, a Comprehensive School Counseling Plan that is aligned with the ASCA (American School Counseling Association) model, and started the process. Then on Monday evening we were able to put a lot of it together, working through ideas. On Monday, we also took the time to go over our last project in which we didn’t receive the grade we expected. We took the time to prepare for our meeting with Dr. Farrugia to talk about both our projects.

The second and final exam in my Research Methods course took place on Saturday and I think it went well. What’s left for me to do now is to finish my research proposal by next Saturday, and then I’ll be off until I begin my student teaching in September. The proposal has been extremely interesting but quite a bit of work. I am certainly glad that I’ve been spending at least some time every day on this research, as it has made its completion much more manageable.

Hello All ! My mind has been twirling over the change FROM school year (subbing, tutoring, full time grad school) —-> TO summer mode (4 week grad classes, summer playground program, and kayaking) I bought a kayak last week…..used, yes, but with YEARS of life in it…. OOPS… saying too much about kayaking (i heart kayaks).

What a beautiful summer day! I’m sitting here staring out the doors that lead to our front porch and feel that familiar itch to be outside enjoying the sunshine! We get so few incredibly gorgeous summer days here in Buffalo – personally I feel the need to soak up as much as I can! Before I head outside, I wanted to take a minute to update you on how my internship at DeGraff Hospital has been going.

This weekend I was able to take an evening to “myself” to drive back home to the Fredonia area to visit with a few friends. One of my friends hosted a Tastefully Simple Party. A Tastefully Simple Party is a party where you can buy food. Everyone receives a catalog and as you look through the catalog they bring out samples of the food to sample. It was a very delicious party! I bought some things for my Father’s Day dinner I am making this Sunday, so let’s just hope it arrives in time! I will be cutting it close, but if it doesn’t arrive in time I will just have to go in another direction.

Last week I had the opportunity to meet with the cooperating teacher that I’ll be working with during the first of two student teaching placements that I’ll be enrolled in during the fall semester. She is very energetic and experienced, and I was impressed with how she maintains her student-centered classroom. She took me on a general tour of the school and then a detailed one of her classroom, where she teaches a grades 3&4 split class. She described how the layout of her classroom and the display of the students’ work help to create an optimal learning environment for the children. She really made me feel comfortable and I can hardly wait until we get started in September.

I love balancing summer classes with summer activities. With school coming to a close, I’ve been working on starting up my summer program, as well as wrapping up my tutoring program for the school year. I’m getting that excited giddy feeling like the kids, but honestly my body is super duper confused. I am taking summer courses, and I just took my health certification exam on Saturday (hence the late post). Wow, seems like a lot of academic stuff, when it normally isn’t that type of year for me!!!
