Well I’m sure that we have all spent some time over the past two weeks watching the Winter Olympics, regardless if you are a sports fan or not.  I know personally I have spent more than my fair share of time watching the world’s best athletes displaying their talents on the world’s largest stage.  No [...]

We’ve all heard the expression, “Mind Over Matter”, before. Maybe it was brought to your attention during a challenging sporting or academic event. I honestly cannot remember when I first heard the expression, but I do know it’s been one I’ve heard countless times. Oddly enough, it’s been on my mind this week. Thursday I had my first exam in EKG. We were given a packet of EKG strips and had to diagnose the different rhythms on each strip. Fun huh? I felt somewhat prepared for the exam. I tried to study a little bit each day, specifically focusing on my weakest points when it came to identifying EKG rhythms.

This past week was quite busy for me, as I completed my first midterm of this semester and submitted some interesting assignments. The week was capped off by doing some volunteer work for Junior Achievement in Markham (Ontario) and some pre-teaching at an elementary school in Newmarket (Ontario).

After a trip to Ithaca this past weekend to catch up with friends and attend Chili-fest, this week has been pretty low key. At work I have just been working on settling deals with sponsors for the Buffalo Flash and finishing up our ticket designs. Since the Flash is going to have an official sponsor for each home game, with Supercuts being the official sponsor for our home opener May 26th, I been communicating with them for a logo to put on the front of our tickets as well as putting together some ad for the back of the tickets.

I’m sitting here at the computer thinking how happy I am to be inside where it’s nice and toasty with my two little sweeties. Jake’s been playing with his cars all morning, but more importantly his color changing cars, which means mommy gets to make a dozen trips back and forth from the sink so we can see Lightning McQueen, Mater, Sarge and etc. change from one color to the next. I love how excited he gets to see the colors change before his very eyes, which reminds me why I love teaching so much. I love seeing the interest sparked within my students and their yearning for more.

The work is really starting to pile up in the CSPA program. Almost every first year student is swamped with work and meetings.

I don’t know where the time is going. Every time I have to write down the date I am in awe. I just have so much going on right now within all my different roles, seems as if the days just keep passing by! The only trouble with this is the abundance of papers that are coming my way. I have successfully completed one paper thus far, only about four more to go to complete all of them due for this semester.

The beginning part of the semester is behind us, so now we actually have to start worrying about projects and assignments being due on a regular basis (besides my online course which loaded me with work right off the bat). My past cooperating teacher at Orchard Park has been a huge help with that class, PE for the Exceptional Individual.

Again, sitting warm and cozy in my chair….Olympics are on in the background, I’m happy to be home and warm. I’m fighting back a cold… It’s nice not having to head out to class. I remember in undergrad–having to bundle up, or worse yet, having to drive 30 miles to observe teaching. It wasn’t the observing that I didn’t like…it was the bundling. Boots, shoes, sock, jackets, professional clothes, hats, books, backpack, scarf, gloves…. the list goes on and on.

After another long week, I had an awesome, relaxing weekend. On Friday night, my roommate Chelsea’s mom and sister came up to visit, and took us and some of our friends out to dinner at the Anchor Bar (home of the original Buffalo Chicken Wing!). It was my second time there, and it was delicious. After we returned home, I was so tired that I just popped in a movie and fell asleep (I know, I’m such a party animal).
