Every year, the Association of Women and Men in Communication organizes a networking field trip to help members connect with professionals in fields that we are interested in. This year, on October 23rd, we spent the afternoon at The Buffalo Zoo. We took a tour of the zoo to see some of the animals. Our tour included a stop to see the new baby rhino! After our tour we had the opportunity to sit down with the zoo’s Marketing Department. Their department only contains a few people so it was interesting to listen to all the different hats they get to wear. Our group asked them questions about how they arrived at these positions, what they liked best, challenges they face, and so on. It was very interesting to hear the career paths that they have all taken. For me, this is my favorite part of networking and meeting with professionals. It gives me ideas of what types of career paths I can possibly take in the future. This was a great networking opportunity, and although I am graduating this semester, many of the other students I was with were able to inquire about future internship opportunities. We all received business cards from the staff and they all told us to contact them with any questions in the future.
