The first day of my internship, I did not know what to expect. I had been in the Elmwood Village Association’s (EVA) office before but I didn’t know what my tasks or role here would be. When I got to the office, I was greeted with smiles and met another intern. I knew right away that I would like being here. The office is right on Elmwood; it is bright, comfortable and people frequently stop in throughout the day. When I was told that I would be working on the social media accounts, I was very excited. I have gone to school in the Elmwood Village since high school so I really feel as if I am part of this community. So far, I have seen how much the association does for the village, and I am so happy to be a part of it! I have jumped right into the work at EVA and my time there goes by very quickly. One of my favorite tasks is designing the E-newsletters. Merchants will send me information about sales or events going on in the village and then I use a program called Constant Contact to design an appealing newsletter that gets emailed to over 2,000 people. It has been a lot of fun learning this program and interacting with merchants. We are also in the process of planning the Elmwood Village Association’s 20th Anniversary Party. There is so much work that goes into planning such a large event! It has been fun helping to plan this and I can’t wait to see how the event turns out! What I love most about my internship is the variety of tasks that I have — I can be drafting tweets and Facebook posts one day and interviewing merchants the next. This makes my days exciting and I am learning so much about not-for-profit organizations.
