Be the Light 2018 was a week-long experience of kinship, solidarity, and immersion. BTLI was incredibly blessed to have had 23 engaged high school students from around the world. Watching students desire to learn about justice while developing life-long friendships was exactly why I wanted to be a part of BTLI. Whether it was learning about Buffalo’s refugee population, food desserts, or housing injustices, students truly cared and wanted to learn how they can be a light in injustice systems. BTLI was an opportunity to pause and really think about the world around us. We live in a fast paced world, and how often do we get to live in solidarity with others and serve those around us?

The last few moments of BTLI were filled with laughter, tears, and heartfelt goodbyes. This is when I realized, this institute is a reflection of what we want to see in the world. We are being a light in the world by loving others together. Thank you students, our partners, and staff who made BTLI 2018 such a special week in at Canisius College. We will continue to keep in touch with you and are excited to hear how you are being a light in your community! Never underestimate yourselves! You will and can do great things!
